Hi, Manning Bartlett here, manager of Allan's legacy. I'd like to correct some factual inaccuracies.
1. Allan was born in 1946.
2. He did have a single phone conversation with his birth father, I believe in 1978.
3. Allan could certainly read and write conventional music. Sam Holdsworth taught him. He didn't see any value in it for his music. He also never learned the jazz chord notation used in Berklee and the Real books, he had his own unique notation.
Thanks for this piece on him. One of the most truthful. I love that you captured his always saying that he sucked, it's true. The first time he said it to me I was speechless. The next couple times you realize it is just his thing and he really wasn't fishing. We're coming up on the anni of his death soon, 8 years. He was one of the greatest and a pretty big character.
I appreciate your comments...I agree, one of the greatest
well put! More the flow than the individual notes?
